Call for Proposals / Presenters

Teachers in all content areas, at all levels, ask their students to write (and read). How can we move beyond seeing this as an obligation or a frustration and instead see writing and reading as ways of thinking and learning?

Another way to look at it: language across the curriculum. Humans use language to tell stories, share information, discuss ideas, and imagine possibilities, whether it’s in science, history, geography, art, music, math, civics, or health.

We invite teachers in all these disciplines to share their experiences incorporating writing as a way of learning and thinking about the discipline–and across disciplines.

Consider the following prompts:
  • (Why) Does writing across the curriculum still matter?
  • How do we revive the excitement around reading and writing in our content areas/disciplines?
  • What new possibilities exist in terms of exploring the connections among thinking,  learning, and writing?
  • How do we teach ourselves and our students to discover and communicate what we care about in the world?
  • How have you addressed writing in your content area/discipline?
  • What does “Writing Across the Curriculum” mean in the context of your school/district?
  • What does “Writing Across the Curriculum” mean in the context of your content area/discipline?
  • How can content areas/disciplines collaborate to deepen engagement in learning through writing?
